We have a long-term temp at the office, Katherine, who brought in a baked food having a filling of fruit prepared in a pastry-lined pan or dish and topped with a pastry crust.* Actually, she brought two: apple and pumpkin. And the pumpkin was going commando, top crust-wise. And you know why she brought these yummy treats in? Because today is March 14th, so the yummy treats were placed on the front desk surround with a sign:
Happy Pi Day
3.14
3.14
Now is that not nifty?
And she also recommends the "pi-em" that Mike Keith wrote.

Whilst a wee lass, I had a good friend who went to MIT.
On the third floor of his dorm, someone edited a certain room number, preferring to occupy room 3.14 than boring old room 314.
The other thing I enjoyed about his friends was that whenever anyone said "This is MIT" at the beginning of a sentence, everyone else would chime in with "collect and third number calls are not accepted at this number."
Sadly, I understand that when you dial an MIT telephone number, you no longer get that odd message before you can speak to your party.
Not cut before 1:59 and 26 seconds, I hope.
Have you ever known a pumpkin pie to have a top crust? Oh, maybe a streusel-type topping, perhaps, if you go in for that sort of thing, but I don't know that American-style custard-type pies (as opposed to European tartes or tartins) ever get a lid...
